Monologue Rules

  • The monologue time is 2-5 minutes
  • Two age groups: Up to age 59 and 60+
  • Prizes for each age group, and a grand prize
  • Monologues can be on any subject
  • Monologues should come from any published play
  • Monologue fee is $5 members, $10 non-members

The competition is a unique opportunity to perform individually and receive feedback from an experienced national adjudicator, while sharpening your performance skills and networking with other artists. Anyone may enter in one of the three age categories.

Monologues must be memorized and should come from a published play by an established writer. You may present a piece of any dramatic or comedic material, not to exceed five minutes in length. No props, costumes, or effects of any kind are permitted.

Participants will be assigned a preliminary-round monologue slot. Rounds will be based on participation and the adjudicator will select finalists from each preliminary round to perform in the Monologue Competition Finals.

The winner in each category will be announced on Sunday at the award ceremony. You will be adjudicated on stage presence, character development, presentation, and emotion, by national adjudicator Brad Moore.
